PROBLEM

Client seeks to provide awareness about an unfamiliar topic in order to promote identity, culture and increased knowledge.

SOLUTION

Create adaptive tool which provides simple and elegant UI access via digital resources.

GV SPRINT TEAM

Nadia Rey, Heather Bierema, Blair Sutherland + Gabriella Matthews

For this initial project, I had the luxury of working with an amazingly cohesive and driven group. We all came to the table with individual skills and proficiency. Working together allowed us to create a well-received design. We were primarily strategic thinkers, with Gabriella as facilitator, Blair as organizer and group leader, Heather as visual design lead and myself, in the roles of decider/asset collector. We all were able to execute assigned tasks with punctuality and efficiency.

SURVEYS

Response + Interest

  • Each of us on our team scored 6 different areas of evaluation. We created a scorecard to determine what areas work well in our app and which need to be iterated. The scoring system we used was from 1 to 5, the best performance would be scored 5. The participants were able to achieve up to 90 points. We applied this same system to the 6 questions we asked to evaluate the success rate. The results are as follows:
    The questions:

    • Show us how you might find out about Jazz: 88/90
    • Tell us where Sun Ra was born: 86/90
    • Find a song by Sun Ra called New Day: 81/90
    • Find a video about Sun Ra: 90/90

PERSONAS

Gia Brown.

We created our user flow with Gia in mind, and our details surrounding her goals of being a successful artist, with community interest also pushed our drive to design with specific intent.
To create this adaptive learning tool, we needed to ensure that accessibility, information relay and navigation were prominent features. Gia is our persona who must navigate through the application , inspired by a friend, to learn additional info about art similar to what she enjoyed in The Wiz, a black rendition of The Wizard of Oz.

USER JOURNEY

Gia’s journey.

Reflecting our targeted user through our proto-persona, Gia, we created a simple user flow that navigated through the app and ended with an information access experience.

DESIGN STAGES

SKETCHES

GV Sprint Style

We collectively sketched, both individually and disconnected and together in a number of challenges to create memorable and necessary features. This sketch reflected an initial desire to create a detailed timeline, in a web format, which we ultimately found to be more complex than necessary in information relay.

DESIGN STAGES

WIREFRAMES

Evolutions, Iterations + Revolutions

Changing faces, changing screens, testing any and everything…pushing design to the limit. We created several wireframes however the ones reflected in the image are the main which we felt strongest about. We selected screens collectively through voting using Miro and choosing our favorite feature elements by designer, per screen.
This taught us about working collectively, working with both the user and client in mind and being decisive about what will create momentum for the user.
